About Golliwog

***The staff of the Jim Crow Museum receives dozens of letters and emails. Some of these communiques offer insight into race relations -- historically and in the present. While some are hateful, we have decided to share some of these letters and emails with our Internet visitors.***

Laku Pekka example

You might want to add to your history about Golliwog character that large Finnish candy producer Fazer recently took out the Golliwog type of character from one of their most famous liquorice sweets and changed the name from Laku-Pekka (when translated means same as golliwog) to more suitable Laku-Potko (liquorice bar). One of the main reasons was that this character was used by racist groups in their logos.

However another candy producer still uses a character very near to golliwog in some of its liquorice sweets. But Finnish (and Europeans in general) are in general more wary about the status of this character.

PS: I don't work for Fazer, got just bored and found your article and thought I could add a little detail.
