The Jim Crow Museum is developing unit and lesson plans for educators to use in their classrooms. The curriculum has been aligned to Michigan learning standards. Please check back as new unit plans are being added regularly.
During the Spring 2021 semester, the Jim Crow Museum collaborated with Ferris State University's School of Education to create student-generated lesson plans for the course EDLA 222 - Text and The Child.
This course was designed to assist teacher candidates with the creation of projects using children's literature. A portion of the course covers literature as visual text and various artistic styles found in picture books are examined. The course emphasizes strategies for using literature in the classroom and strategies for teaching the history of the Jim Crow-era and the impact of racism in the United States through children's books.
